Current Volunteers:

Welcome to our new current volunteers web page! With so much happening at the shelter it is sometimes difficult to keep all the volunteers "in the loop." The webpage was designed to help solve that problem. This page will be used to post a copy of the weekly volunteer schedule, new volunteer position openings, upcoming events, any changes to shelter hours, and any other relevent information for our current volunteers.

Volunteers Needed:

SafeHaven is currently looking for volunteers to help with our outreach program, by taking dogs to Lebanon Rehab Center one or two Thursdays a month. This is a wonderful program in which the dogs at SafeHaven get a chance to get out of the shelter, while community members get the oppotunity to bond with an animal. If you are interested in making a difference in our community by participating in this program or would like more information about this program, please contact the volunteer manager by email or at 928-2789.

Cassie Update:

I know many of you have gotten attached to Cassie during her long stay at SafeHaven. Here is an email update from her foster mom, and a picture of her and her new friend!

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to give you all an update on Cassie. Her first weekend with us has been great. She has taken her benadryl daily and had a nice warm bath on Sunday. (yes, with the shampoo you sent home with her) She loved the warm water in the tub and we blow dried her and she just slept… she has not been chewing or digging at herself. She is shedding like crazy so I am hopeful that it is just the change from being an outside dog to an inside girl. So we have cotton candy white hair everywhere!!! LOL

My dog Buddy and Cassie seem to be getting along fine. Cassie is a very smart girl and has remembered all of basic commands. She has had no accidents in the house and is veryyyy good about going to the door when she needs to go outside. Cassie is patient while we wipe her feet off when she comes in the house as well. She has not chewed on anything and loves the new fluffy bed we got her and sleeps right next to her new friend Buddy.  She has really taken to me over the last couple days and follows me everywhere. We are going to have her spend quality time with Mike the rest of the week to get her socialized and bonding with someone other than myself. She has been great with the neighbor kids as well who wanted to come over and meet her. So things are looking very promising that we will be her forever home!! I will keep you posted on how she is doing with us!

We now have Whistles!

To ensure a quick responce time, we now have whistles for volunteers working with dogs to wear. The purpose of the whistles is for volunteers to use them to notify staff if a dog fight breaks out. Remember: A volunteer should NEVER try to break up a dog fight! Staff will come to break the dogs up, and examine them for any possible injuries.
